Tongji University, established in 1907, is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education in China. After over a century’s development, it is now a comprehensive university with nine disciplines in engineering, science, medicine, literature, philosophy, management, arts, law and economics. The university now registers over 50,000 students in 21 schools and colleges. There is over 4200 academic staff for teaching and/or research. The university offers diverse courses in its 82 Bachelor’s Degrees, 218 Masters, 94 PhD programs and 16 post doctoral mobile stations. As one of the state leading centers for scientific research, the university has 22 state key laboratories and engineering research centers.
SEM (School of Economics and Management) established in 1984, is composed of 6 departments of Business Administration, Construction Management and Real Estate, Management Science and Information, Economics and Finance, Accounting and Public Administration. It has 249 faculty members, including 56 full-time professors and 70 associate professors. With a total registration of over 5000 students, it offers 10 undergraduate programs, 14 master’s programs, 11 doctoral programs, 1 post-doctoral program and 4 professional degree programs. SEM has established close ties of extensive scientific research collaboration and academic exchange with institutions from Germany, France, American, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, etc. Located in Shanghai, the emerging financial hub of Asia, SEM takes the geological advantage of the Yangtze Delta Region, a world of manufacturer, to contribute to the economy of China and even the whole world. CAUP (College of Architecture and Urban Planning) is one of the first colleges in China to offer programs in urban planning, historic building preservation engineering, landscape study, and industrial design. It boasts China’s first graduate program in architecture (1954), one of the first doctoral programs (1981), and the first post-doctoral research center (1988). Currently, it has four departments (Department of Architecture, Department of Urban Planning, Department of Art Design, and the Department of Landscape Study) with six undergraduate programs, six postgraduate programs, and five doctoral programs. Extensive courses are offered in Urban Planning Design, Architectural Design, Landscape Design, and Graphic Design, enabling a balanced development among all of CAUP’s disciplines. CAUP offers the most extensive programs in China and hosts the largest body of postgraduate students in the world. CAUP is thus recognized as one of the most globally influential, international academic centers. |
